Thanks for all the replies I have received on this subject; they have been (mostly) passed on to my colleague (in another NHS Trust). For information, they decided that the GP of the diagnosed child (who has one year to live) and the GP of the other child will discuss the issue and decide how to progress. It certainly is a medical ethics issue, but it also contains sensitive data. What if we had been speaking of infectious diseases like Measles (Notifiable disease), or Chlamydia, or of at risk contact with a person who is HIV positive? I have different reactions to being told about those, and each has different significance to my life and to my relationship with my wife. Measles: Thank you. Chlamydia: Oh lord. Where did that come from and how do I tell my wife? HIV: As Chlamydia, but with the added complication of the assumptions made about source of infection, plus the hysteria that surrounds it as an alleged death sentence Tim Trent - Consultant Direct: +44(0)1344 392644 Mobile:+44(0)7710 126618 email: [log in to unmask] Marketing Improvement Limited, Abbey House, Grenville Place, Bracknell, United Kingdom, RG12 1BP http://www.marketingimprovement.com This message is for the intended addressee's use only.
