It does seem rather an anomaly that the discussion has mainly been about a
particular sub-set(or type) of information rather than the purposes it may
be processed for, that may have distracted somewhat from the above point.

Would that same information have the same secure protections if it were
retained for research purposes within an institution, would it need them, or
would the data subject not realise or care where a compromising use of such
data might have come from?
