I have been asked a couple of questions which I thought I needed to consult further about. 1) If we sent a magazine containing general meteorological information and marketing material to a published list of flying schools, would this contravene the DPA, or should we contact them to gain consent first? 2) If we sent a similar mailing to customers internationally, are we still constrained by the same rules or must we consider equivalent Data Protection Acts from the recipient's country? Thanks in anticipation, Stewart Turner HR Data Team Leader, Met Office. P.S. I have created this email address to prevent attracting spam to my work address. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ All archives of messages are stored permanently and are available to the world wide web community at large at http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/data-protection.html If you wish to leave this list please send the command leave data-protection to [log in to unmask] All user commands can be found at : - http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/help/commandref.htm (all commands go to [log in to unmask] not the list please) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
