Cindy, Take a look at Outlaw's web site (out-law.com), Chris Pounder has written a very interesting little piece on the subject of offshoring. I think the only way long term, for people to stop their details going offshore is to move bank accounts. So far my limited experience of Indian call centres has been good, but I am loosing count of the number of disillusioned people I come across, who have had trouble trying to speak with offshore centres. If one single thing is going to bring an awareness of DP to the public, this *could* be it, regardless of the outcome. I believe that offshoring has its uses, but personally I think the movement of call centres is a mistake. I truly believe that there will be a backlash from the public over this in the future. However my views have nothing to with DP and more to do with good customer services, the perception of the public and the "easy way out" management takes when trying to reduce costs and build profit, which is often an exercise in short-sightedness. Take a look at Chris's article. Has a date been set for a court case? Do we expect it to actually be challenged at that level? This is a 'hot topic' for my organisation and we are interested on the potential impact on our policy in this area.
