To expand on my earlier reply. Almost invariably (in fact, I can't think of any exceptions) the request from the solicitor will not be accompanied by any payment nor will it enquire as to what, if any, payment is required. On some occasions there will be a form of consent signed by the client (data subject). That means that I have to write back requesting the fee and (where not provided) the consent. Where I have not received a consent I will include our standard Subject Access Request Form which contains a section for an agent to confirm that he/she is acting on behalf of the data subject and asks for proof to be attached. Incidentally, the same procedure is used whether the agent is a solicitor or anyone else.
