ref Roland's message <snip> It may depend on what the petition says.... I'm not certain it necessarily has to say anything. Defamation is concerned with preserving reputation and damage to reputation can be done without words. In the past red lamps hung outside houses (suggesting operation of a brothel) and wax models placed in the chamber of horrors have been held to be defamatory of individuals. Old cases maybe but still good law. IMHO circulating a petition against an individual's interests simply because someone thinks he/she might be a paedophile is defamatory especialy where it can't be justified. rgds, Kevin Broadfoot BPP and the author of this email accept no responsibilty for any damage caused by the receipt of this email. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ All archives of messages are stored permanently and are available to the world wide web community at large at http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/data-protection.html If you wish to leave this list please send the command leave data-protection to [log in to unmask] All user commands can be found at : - http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/help/commandref.htm (all commands go to [log in to unmask] not the list please) ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
