Correct!  And this is I guess the basis on which it works on other EU countries
where the ID card is compulsory (mind you a matter of time before it becomes
compulsory here).

My only puzzle is that this country has done better than many EU countries in
protecting in national security without having an ID card.  Why do I get the
feeling that by introducing the card it will weaken its national security ...?
