BRANCUSI'S SCULPTURE ENSEMBLE AT TIRGU JIU

A key figure in American avant-garde cinema, Paul Sharits's later work moved
from medium specific 'pure-films' to more installation-based 'locational'
work that expanded cinema beyond it's traditional components. This film is a
'chronicle' of a visit Sharits made to Romania in 1977 to experience three
of Brancusi's most famous sculptures: The Endless Column, The Gate of the
Kiss, and The Table of Silence. These works span the boundaries of the rural
town of Tirgu Jiu and - while aligned in a (virtual) straight line - cannot
all be seen from one single point of view. The film examines the temporal
unfolding as one moves through the town to experience their relationship.
