Capital & Class Copy Editor
Job Description and quote request

The Conference of Socialist Economists are looking for a Copy Editor for the journal Capital & Class.  The work is on a self-employed basis and the journal comes out three times a year.  Deadline 30 January 2004.  Please forward.

Job Description:

1. To copy edit the Capital & Class journal including query-raising and finalisation of text.

2. To send finished proofs to our typesetter, Lithoprint.

3. The journal comes out three times a year, February, June and October.  The proofs are sent to the typesetter mid December, April and August respectively.

4. The copy editor will receive the text three months prior to typesetting from the issue editor.

5. Each issue is anywhere between 160 and 190 pages, with a maximum of 400 words per page.  This is made up of about six long pieces, between two and four shorter pieces and a few book reviews.  Some of our authors do not have English as a first language, but articles have already been read by four assessors and are of a reasonable standard.

6. The Editorial Board co-ordinator and the issue co-ordiantor will be responsible for the copy-editor receiving the texts and for answering any queries.  The office worker issues the payments and ensures the typesetters have received the texts.

7. The content is academic Marxist theory and analysis in the social sciences and related subjects.  Some mathematical and statistical content may be expected.  See our website for details.

8. The pay will be on a self employed basis per issue, the same amount for each issue.  We will send a cheque on receipt of an invoice.

9. We would expect the copy editor to do this work on an on-going basis and give Capital & Class at least one issue's notice if they wanted to cease doing the work.  CSE will give the copy editor one issue's notice if we wish to cease the arrangement.

The first issue the copy editor will work on will be the one published on 1 June 2004.  The editing will therefore take place mainly during March and April 2004.

Quote Request:

If you are interested in this work, please send us a quote for an amount per issue and a letter of application.  The deadline for this is 12.00 noon, 30 January 2004.  We will be making a decision on the 31 January 2004.  Please contact the office for any more details.
