CALL FOR PAPERS

The 28th Annual Conference of the
Society for Caribbean Studies
Lancaster University, UK
Thursday 1st - Saturday 3rd July, 2004

The Society seeks one-page abstracts, accompanied by a one-page CV, by
January 10th 2004 for research papers on the Hispanic, Francophone,
Dutch and Anglo-Caribbean, and Caribbean diasporas.  Papers can address
the following themes, but we also welcome abstracts for papers, or full
panel proposals, that fall outside the list of topics below. Authors of
papers selected for the conference will be invited to give 20 minute
presentations of their papers and offered the opportunity to publish
their full papers on the society's web site.

2004 marks the 200th anniversary of Haitian independence.  We
particularly welcome papers that reflect on the relevance of this
anniversary to their subject.

The Society will provide a limited number of bursaries to postgraduate
presenters, which will contribute to registration and accommodation
costs, but not travel costs. Postgraduate presenters should indicate
that they are seeking a bursary when they submit their abstracts. Arts
researchers/practitioners living and working in the Caribbean are
eligible to apply for the Bridget Jones Travel Bursary, the deadline for
which is 1 December 2003.
