Hi Barry, 1. I'd never heard of RECAL before but it looks very interesting. I think there definitely needs to be a source for EAT. Unfortunately whoever does this may come across similar problems that I have in working for FAST - people are doing excellent research in a variety of areas but seem reluctant to let anyone know until the research has ended. There's a general lack of dissemination except for those who publish in journals and it's difficult for all of us to keep up with all the different journals available. As a consequence, many projects disappear, never to be heard of again, and then someone else a few years down the line duplicates portions of the research already done. I already have examples of seven different projects researching the same area but the groups involved are oblivious to each other. Sorry if this is slightly off the topic, I must confess this is a bit of frustration speaking! 2. I think that ergonomics does come into the AT field, or at least some of the principles. All the ergonomic mice like the Anir Mouse are supposed to be ergonomically designed for RSI but have applications for disability. Hope someone knows a bit more about this area than me! Cheers, Aidan. ----- Original Message ----- From: Taylor, Barry To: [log in to unmask] Sent: Thursday, November 25, 2004 12:23 PM Subject: Re: International Journal: 'Universal Access in the Information Society ' Hi Aidan & the list Never heard of it - looks interesting! Two issues: 1. How do we find out about things? RECAL does a good job in one part of the spectrum, but a wider (including EAT) current awareness programme would be invaluable. Anyone agree? 2. I'm not aware that our field links up with human factors/ ergonomics in any major way. Can anyone contradict me? When you're designing a car (eg) , you have rules on accelerator (eg) design - forces, travel, position - designed to cope with your gaussian distribution of drivers & their repeated use of this device. We tend to be looking at individuals with abilities specific to themselves, but the principles must apply?
