This one-day training course has been developed by RNIB, in partnership with ALM London, to help practitioners working with the public in London's archives, libraries, museums and galleries to improve their visual awareness and develop new skills for facilitating access to services, collections and resources for blind and partially sighted people.

The course is suitable for all frontline staff working with the public in archives, libraries, museums and galleries who wish to increase their awareness about the barriers to access faced by blind and partially sighted people, and to develop practical strategies to address these issues within their organisations.

Aims:
By the end of the training day participants will:

* Have gained insights into the ways that barriers, experienced by people who are blind and partially sighted, can be removed or reduced
* Have the confidence to offer hands-on assistance to individual blind and partially sighted people in a manner recommended by RNIB (particularly in relation to guiding blind and partially sighted people, description and touch tours, and an introduction to providing ICT support, etc.)
* Know about existing examples of good practice as regards service provision for blind and partially sighted people in archives, libraries, museums, galleries and other heritage organisations, as well as gaining a knowledge of resources and services available nationally
* Understand general principles, and appropriate approaches, for describing images, objects, documents and collection layouts to blind and partially sighted people.
*
*       Group activities:
* During the training day delegates will participate in the following types of activities:
