TITLE: Librarian and Archivist Graduate Trainee
LOCATION: Oxford
SALARY: £11612 (plus NI and pension), with a pay rise after a successful
3-month probation
STATUS: One Year Full Time (1 October 2004–30 September 2005)

DESCRIPTION: Magdalen College is seeking a graduate for a one-year
internship in its Libraries and Archives. This is an unusual opportunity
for someone who wishes to gain experience of both library and archives
work before pursuing further qualifications.
All applicants should have a first degree and serious intentions of
pursuing a career in professional librarianship or archives work. It is
expected that the successful candidate will apply to a library or
archives course during their year at Magdalen. The Graduate Trainee’s
time will be divided between the college Archives and Libraries, where
there will be a variety of training and duties, such as answering
queries, cataloguing, setting up exhibitions, learning conservation
methods, and assisting with general administration. Training will
include formal short courses, e.g. in IT skills, depending on the
trainee’s particular interests.
