Please note the following Manchester-based Records Mangement position

Records Manager
Manchester - Salary and benefits from c.£30,000

The General Medical Council licenses doctors to practise medicine in the UK. The law gives us four main functions: * keeping up to date registers of qualified doctors * fostering good medical practice * promoting high standards of medical education * dealing firmly and fairly with doctors whose fitness to practise is in doubt

The General Medical Council is seeking a Records Manager to develop policy and procedures in relation to information management. Placed within the Information Systems section of the Resources directorate, and reporting to the Head of Information Systems, the post holder will play an important role in introducing records management structures and procedures to the GMC. The post holder will also support us in our desire to become an exemplar of good records management practise.

This is a time of major change for the GMC, and this post offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to an organisation-wide culture change. The post holder will be actively involved in drawing up, implementing and maintaining new policies and procedures, delivering training and advice to colleagues and carrying out other work to ensure the GMC meets best practice standards and legislative compliance. We will shortly undertake an extensive programme to re-list our off-site records and introduce file-tracking software. The postholder will oversee the day-to-day aspects of this project, reporting to a project board.

The post holder will have strong organisational, analytical and influencing skills. He or she will have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and be able to communicate complex technical information in plain English to GMC staff at all levels. Previous records management experience is essential. A relevant qualification in records or archives management is desirable but not essential.

The GMC has made a public commitment to processes and procedures that are fair, objective, transparent and free from discrimination.
