Labour Heritage is an organisation which promotes the study of the history
of the British Labour Party particularly by Party members, Constituency
Labour Parties and former Party members, concentrating on Party history at
local level and the contribution of ordinary people. Its web site provides
details on the aims of the organisation, its membership and current events,
debate issues, and its 2006 project encouraging local Party history research
and publication for the 2006 Anniversary of the change of name from Labour
Representation Committee to Labour Party.

Topics of interest include: the development of the Labour party, British
socialism and the role of women in Labour Party politics. It has also been
building into its work aspects of Black and Asian Heritage in the UK, racism
and anti-racism, and anti-colonialism.

The Annual General Meeting and Conference for Labour Heritage will be taking
place on 27 March (10am-4.30pm) at London Metropolitan Archives, 40
Northampton Rd, London, EC1R OHB. The conference theme will be 'Labour and
Race' and presentations will be given by the following speakers:

Ken Lunn (University of Portsmouth) Labour & Race. A Historical Overview
Paul Kelemen (University of Manchester) The Labour Party and Africa
1920-1961
Stan Newens (Chair, Labour Heritage; Movement for Colonial Freedom
Member MCF)
Marika Sherwood (Secretary, BASA (Black &  Asian Studies Association) Why
did the Labour Party turn down Krishna Menon as a Parliamentary candidate?
The Dundee bye-election of 1940.
Sean Creighton (Labour Heritage Secretary) John Archer, Battersea's
Progressive and Labour politician and Pan Africanist (1863-1932)
Jonathan Wood (Labour Heritage Committee) William Miller, Plymouth Labour's
Black Council activist (1890-1970) .
