Dear Friends of the BSA Race and Ethnicity Study Group

Here is some preliminary information on our next seminar. Fuller details will be sent out in the next few weeks.

'Race', health and social care: practice and research Seminar * Saturday 13th March 2004

Practitioners and researchers within health and social care sometimes assert that writing around ethnicity, identity and 'race' does not illuminate their work enough. Others working with these issues complain that health and social care perspectives locally and nationally are both undertheorised and largely ethnocentric. Whatever the case, profound health inequalities and multiple racisms continue to damage the well-being and life chances of minority ethnic people. Two issues are discussed today; young people and mental health. Both are health and social care areas where racialised health inequalities and multiple racisms are detrimental to lived lives. We hope talking about these issues and sharing our experiences together will help us unpack how to address health associated inequalities and racisms in our studying and working lives.
