Domestic Encounters: 1400 to the Present
Postgraduate Research Day
Call for Papers

14 March 2005
Royal College of Art
London

This research day will explore the ways in which the domestic interior has been experienced, occupied and perceived. The event aims to bring together new researchers studying the domestic interior, providing them with an interdisciplinary forum in which to present their work and to exchange ideas and approaches.

This event is part of an ongoing initiative at the AHRB Centre for the Study of the Domestic Interior to support an interdisciplinary community of postgraduates working in fields related to the domestic interior. We invite papers from students of design, fine art, architecture, anthropology, art history, historical geography and social and cultural history. Students working from both historical and contemporary perspectives are encouraged to submit proposals.

We particularly welcome contributions covering:
 - Work and the domestic sphere
 - Sociability in the home
 - Emotions, beliefs and domestic rituals
