JOB: PERMANENT: Air Traffic Forecaster (Statistician) - Central London

National Air Traffic Services (NATS) provides air traffic control services
to aircraft flying in UK airspace and will handle more than two million
flights carrying over 180 million passengers this year. 

We are looking for a forecaster to join our Forecasting and Business
Information team within our Strategy and Regulation department based at
Brettenham House in Central London. The team is responsible for the
provision of NATS traffic forecasts at its air traffic control centres and
airports and maintaining the data and statistics which are used in
operational performance reporting and analysis. The forecasts are a key
component of the NATS business plan, principally used in revenue and
capacity planning. The forecaster will contribute to all areas of the
section's work which is both varied and interesting, especially at the
current time when the section is looking to develop a replacement for its
existing forecasting model.

Your responsibilities in this role will include assisting in the production
of monthly and annual forecasts, formulating consistent assumptions and
liaising with customers on requirements. You will also play a key role in
reviewing the accuracy of these forecasts and provide updated estimates to
NATS managers. You will assist in all aspects of running and maintaining the
existing forecasting model as well as assisting in the development of
forecasting tools, to improve the quality of the forecasts produced. 

As the statistical expert in the section you will be responsible for general
queries on forecasting, providing advice on statistical techniques, as well
as actively researching better ways of producing forecasts in terms of
accuracy and efficiency.

You will possess a good honours degree in a numerical subject, with a
substantial statistical content or a higher degree in statistics.  As a
recent graduate looking to work in a business environment you will possess
excellent analytical skills and be experienced in spreadsheet and database
packages. You will have a knowledge of statistical software and be
comfortable using such packages on a regular basis.
