>Our client, a FTSE 100 company based in the South East, seeks to appoint a 
>Principal Statistician to supply a specialist consultancy service for 
>their Data Sciences Team and to provide statistical support to teams 
>across the company.
>
>Job Purpose
>
>As Principal Statistician you will:
>
>         ·       Act as a statistical consultant to the lab, providing 
> expert and professional advice in the areas of experimental design, data 
> analysis and data presentation.
>         ·       Manage the interaction between Data Sciences and a key 
> department that provides the majority of the funding for the Data 
> Sciences Group.
>         ·       Alongside the Data Sciences Group leader, maintain and 
> develop the professional and technical skills of the other Statisticians.
>
>Summary of Requirements of the Role
>
>         ·       Deliver quality work in a timely manner to satisfaction 
> of customers; nurturing customer relationships.
>         ·       Gain an understanding of customer science programmes and 
> adopt a pro-active approach in seeking opportunities to contribute.
>         ·       Enhance the reputation of the Data Sciences group through 
> effective presentations and publications.
>         ·       Maintain an awareness of developments in external 
> statistics world.
>         ·       Identify new opportunities for Data Sciences within the 
> laboratory and contribute to securing new resources.
>         ·       Improve the statistical literacy of the laboratory.
>         ·       Maintain accurate documentation of work completed.

>Core Responsibilities
>
>         ·       Act as a statistical consultant to the company primarily 
> as the main point of contact for a specific group.
>         ·       Work together with the group's scientists on project 
> teams, providing high-level advice on all statistical issues from design 
> to analysis, reporting and presentation of results.
>         ·       Develop an understanding of the group's science areas in 
> order to maximise the relevance of statistical advice.
>
>         ·       Liaise with programme managers to maximise the 
> contribution of the Data Sciences Group statistics to their programme 
> outputs and deliverables.
>         ·       Actively develop the statistical knowledge and skills of 
> the other group members, providing answers to questions and help 
> investigating problems for other members of the Data Science Group.
>         ·       Promote the profile of statistics in the company by 
> maintaining and developing links with the statistics community outside 
> the company, e.g. by publishing and presenting at external meetings.
>         ·       Raise understanding and awareness of the benefits of 
> statistics to the site, by identifying areas where statistics has made or 
> could make an improvement to specific projects.
>         ·       Maintain an awareness of new developments or novel 
> applications of statistics and continually seek to exploit these in the 
> research programme.
>
>Particular areas currently requiring support are:
>
>Physiologically-based Pharmacokinetic modelling: building an expertise in 
>PBPK modelling and developing the use of the techniques in that group and 
>the facilitating external collaborations.
>
>Systems biology approaches to risk assessment: building models at a 
>cellular and physiological level, collaborating with external and internal 
>groups. Modelling of genomics, proteomics and metabonomics data.
>
>Building models that combine information from different areas (e.g. 
>genomics, proteomics and metabonomics data).
>
>Making models more probabilistic for exposure and hazard and combining 
>these for risk assessment.
>
>Introducing improved models for an automated product approval system. 
>Defining how to model mixtures of ingredients and provide a probabilistic 
>assessment of the safety.
>
>Person Specification
>
>As Principal Statistician you should possess:
>
>         ·       At least 5 years experience of applying statistics, SAS 
> skills and statistical consultancy experience in a pharmaceutical, 
> healthcare, consumer goods or in an academic environment.
>         ·       Strong communication skills, together with the ability to 
> support, direct and lead business units.
>         ·       Effective influencing skills, together with the ability 
> to give strategic input to senior members of the company and promote the 
> profile of statistics throughout the business.
