PhD Studentships at the University of Birmingham

Two PhD Studentships are available to suitably qualified applicants with a
strong methodological background in biostatistics or epidemiology to
conduct methodological research into subjects relevant to health care
evaluation (eg clinical trials or quasi experimental methods). Specific
topics will be selected by the Student together with their supervisors from
a list of available topics, or from a suitable suggestion from the Student.

A Studentship will entitle a EU holder to have support for fees and
consumables over the period of the study. They will receive a stipend of
£12,000 per year plus consumables to contribute to their study.
Applicants from outside the EU are equally invited to apply, and the
studentships will be offered strictly on the basis of academic merit. Non
EU students will receive pro rata reductions on the stipend received due to
the higher course fees we are forced to charge these students. Additional
consultancy work supporting other projects in the research group may be
available to suitably qualified students on a limited basis, but will not
be a requirement.

Please apply directly by electronic mail to Prof Nick Freemantle,
[log in to unmask] sending a full curriculum vitae, with a covering
letter explaining why you would like to do a PhD, and in general terms the
methodological methods you would be interested to address. Full
applications should be received by 8th November. The Studentships are
funded for 3 years through a grant from Medtronic Inc.

For further information on these positions, please contact Prof Nick
Freemantle informally [log in to unmask] who leads the
well-established group that students will join.
