Full-time PhD Studentship for September 2004

Statistical modelling of disease progression in glaucoma.

School of Science, Nottingham Trent University.

Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness and visual impairment. A PhD studentship is available to research new quantitative, statistical and computational techniques for an imaging technique currently being used in clinics to diagnose and monitor glaucoma patients.

The project is an exciting one having a direct impact on the care of patients, and it benefits from collaboration with leading international vision researchers and clinicians at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. Results will be presented at conferences in the US and Europe, and extensive travel funding for this is available.

A suitable candidate will have a good honours degree, or MSc in Mathematics, Statistics or Computing. Knowledge of vision science will not necessarily be required but computer-programming skills will be an advantage. The 3-year studentship is open to UK and EU candidates only and is worth around £11K per annum (tax free), with all fees for PhD registration waived. The project is funded by an educational grant from Pfizer Ltd.

Applications (CV, including 2 referees and a statement of interest), informal enquiries or request for further details, should be submitted to the project supervisor: Dr. David Crabb, School of Science, Nottingham Trent University, Clifton Campus, Nottingham, NG11 8NS. Email: [log in to unmask], Tel: 0115 848 3275.

CLOSING DATE 31st July 2004.
