Having left allstat in March as a sort of academic, I am rejoining as a sort of civil servant. I'm now responsible for the statistics group at CEFAS, the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science - the wet end of DEFRA.

One consequence of this change is that I will be far less inclined to respond instantly to questions or opinions expressed on the list. However, decency suggests that if one hopes to get help from time to time, one must also offer help.

A second consequence is that I may be recruiting further statisticians to advise and analyse data in this organisation. While not as well paid as the pharmacological sector, we do have a wide variety of challenging experimental and survey activities, so statisticians will have an interesting workload ... and get to keep their soles.
