ECCLESIASTICAL INSURANCE GROUP BUSINESS STATISTICIAN Location: Head Office, Gloucester Salary range: £26-£33k depending upon experience, plus benefits This vacancy has arisen as a result of Ecclesiastical’s growing management information and statistical modelling needs. In particular, business management are seeking enhanced statistical pricing and claims modelling information, and the changing regulatory environment requires a more sophisticated approach to modelling risks and presenting management information. During the first year the jobholder will work intensively on a project team integrating statistical work into the company’s data warehouse and reporting systems. As part of a small team of business statisticians, you will over time be involved in developing stochastic and statistical models, including generalised linear models, cluster analyses, time series forecasts and a raft of actuarial techniques typically used in general insurance. You will also be expected to make your findings available to underwriters and other business users via clearly written reports, presentations and Business Objects reports via the data warehouse. The jobholder will : · Provide professional advice to internal customers to assist their decision-making. · Develop and maintain end-user pricing, reserving and other modelling applications and MI reporting, understanding business needs & focusing efforts on delivering value. · Review and improve processes & techniques to enhance the effectiveness of the function. · Communicate with and coach colleagues effectively, championing statistical disciplines to help spread best practice through the company. You will need to have: · Minimum qualification of a degree in Applied Maths & Stats, Statistics or Econometrics, preferably also a post grad qualification in these areas. · Robust number skills with experience in statistical or actuarial methodologies and tools (preferably including experience of both stochastic modelling and S-Plus) · The ideal candidate would also have prior experience of actuarial or statistical functions within general insurance, however full training can be provided as necessary. Starting salary will reflect statistical / commercial experience levels. · Strong communication and influencing skills, including an ability to describe statistical concepts in layman’s terms and to make clear, actionable recommendations based on findings. · Strong attention to detail and high levels of computer literacy. · Ability to work to tight deadlines, especially in pursuit of regulatory compliance and meeting audit timetables.
