An introduction to study designs, biomarkers, genes/SNPs and analysis
strategies

*** Dates and Place

*** Abstract
This course is intended for those wishing to understand the key concepts
of the multidisciplinary field of molecular epidemiology in the context
of chronic inflammatory diseases. After an overview on the relevant
designs in molecular epidemiology, and an historical overview on
genome-wide scans, the main focus of the course will be on the data
management and analysis concepts for association studies: allele and
genotype comparison between populations; the informativeness of family
data, transmission of an allele in families, inheritance of phenotypes
and penetrance; disequilibrium analysis. Participants will get example
datasets and will be invited to solve practical problems. <>The course
will use plenary lectures, interactive group sessions, ad hoc literature
seminars and an interactive programming session. Teaching language will
be English.
