Just a brief reminder that the NZSA 2004 Conference early bird
deadline (for registration at a reduced fee) is in one week's
time: 30 April 2004. Further information about the conference,
including the conference website through which registrations and
abstract submissions are made, is included below (repeated
from an earlier message).

Themes
Papers are invited in any area of probability and statistics. Student
presentations are especially welcome. There will be cash prizes for the
best three student presentations, sponsored by Hoare Research Software.

Invited Speaker
The invited speaker is Andrew Harvey (Professor of Econometrics,
University of Cambridge). Andrew is a well-known critic of the
Box-Jenkins methodology and has been the leading advocate of structural
time series models as the appropriate foundation for economic time
series analysis and forecasting. His 1989 book, 'Forecasting, structural
time series models and the Kalman filter', is a classic reference for
such models and their application. One of his many studies was
influential in the retention of compulsory seat-belt legislation in the
UK.

Abstract Submission
Abstracts may be submitted online in plain text format, via the
conference website. This is the strongly preferred mechanism.

Registration
Via the conference website. Registration desk open from 8:30 am on 1
July, sessions start at 9:30 am.

Cost (excludes Conference Dinner)

NZSA and SSAI members:
$85 for the day, $100 after 30 April

Non-members:
$135 for the day, $150 after 30 April
(includes free NZSA membership for 1 year)

Students:
$45 for the day, $50 after 30 April

Conference dinner (evening of Thursday 1 July)
To be held at the Skyline Restaurant, Upland Rd, Kelburn. $50 per person
(including some drinks).

AGM
The AGM of the NZSA will be held from 5 to 6 pm on 1 July at the
conference venue.

Accommodation
Delegates should make their own arrangements. A list of suitable
providers is available from the website.

Related Event
The NZSA invited speaker, Andrew Harvey, will be involved in a time
series session on Friday 2 July as part of the New Zealand Association
of Economists (NZAE) Conference, which will be held from 30 June to 2
July at the James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor, Wellington. See

that Friday morning only.
