MessageDr Ossie Stuart
is certainly no newcomer to this field. He's a well experienced pioneer - working in the field since long before the formal recognition of the 'social model' of disability. Dr Stuart is particularly good at teasing out the nuances and interplay between different forms of discrimination and subtle complexities which arise as practitioners attempt to respond to combined discriminations. He brings personal and professional/practical experience as well as theoretical insight grounded in the tensions which have historically operated within the field. He is also able to work from a number of social/cultural perspectives.

Christine, couldn't you say a bit more about why he wasso good?
Did he cover the "social model" of disability, for instance? Did he talk about disability equality, or how to help disabled people? disabled people? Did he run through all the different impairments with the course participants?
I'd love to know more if you've got a minute to tell us?
It's not often you hear of a new disability workshop leader.
And really, anybody can set up to be a disability trainer.

I don't usually respond to all but this is worth knowing. I have recent experience of the most brilliant consultant/trainer for exactly this issue. His name is Dr Ossie Stuart, he's an ex-academic so knows the context we'll all working in, and he received fantasticly positive feedback from a disability workshop he delivered here yesterday. He'll be doing a lot more for us as feedback from participants was "everyone" in the organisation should attend.
Do add his name to your list of Disability Specialists as I believe you'd be hard pushed to find better.
