Hi Mary I assume you mean a device that would attach to a manual door to swing it open and then release it once through it. An interesting challenge and guess there are various health and safety concerns about the release mechanism to ensure that the door did not lock the wheelchair user in its path. The Helen Hamlyn research centre at the Royal College of Art many know of designers who have done this type of work at http://www.hhrc.rca.ac.uk/ or perhaps RICAbility http://www.ricability.org.uk/ Sounds an interesting project if you can get people who want to be interested involved in it. A young wheelchair user in Swansea wants to make a device for his wheelchair as part of his studies. This device would be able to open doors as he approached them. Is there anything on the market? where would he get advice? Can anyone help?
