From experience, written records of medical tests are satisfactory. There are no doubt many machines out there which aren't able to produce a print- off, so the results have to be recorded manually ...examples are some older Amplivox devices, and the hand-held Vitalograph spirometers. There are no legal requirements to produce a print-out of results so long as those results are recorded accurately and withing the framework of NMC guidelines. After all, the majority of our appointments involve written records of consultations. Additionally, there is evidence that thermal print-out paper tends to disintegrate, and the characters fade with time. Therefore it's sometimes essential to have a written record.
