Thanks Alistair.  Great idea re drawing it and getting the supplier to
cut the timber.  I already have the stairs (inch plywood) but I need
'finish them' ie put down t+g, make nosings etc

The best thing about this project so far (other than the floors I have
finished which look lovely if I say so myself ;-)  is that it has been
an excuse to buy a shiny new 10" compound mitre saw, full on table saw
and a few other little toys.   When I have the time I actually enjoy
this.
