I agree with Tim. Of course, there is one very simple way to solve this - ban the sale of cameras! Sure innocent parents would lose out on those precious pics of their darling sprog's embarrassing appearance in the Nativity play, but it would *totally* eliminate that 0.1% chance of some old perv taking his picture too! -----Original Message----- From: Tim Trent [mailto:[log in to unmask]] Sent: 20 May 2004 14:42 To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: DP and School Concerts Like I said, paedomania. No-one could seriously tell me that anyone could get their jollies from a school concert, nor that the films are saleable to unusual people. By the way, let's get off this "father" bit. Myra Hyndley was not male! Ban it for being tasteless and invasive and lousy manners. Otherwise leave it alone. -----Original Message----- From: This list is for those interested in Data Protection issues [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Norman Pottinger Sent: Thursday, May 20, 2004 2:36 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: [data-protection] DP and School Concerts I'm sure we are all trying to be helpful and find a justification for stopping filming under DPA, but of course this is not actually a decision based on DPA at all. It stems from child protection and the fact that the "father" at the back with a video camera may be a paedophile and no one is prepared to take the risk. If the school is taking photos/video for use in publications (electronic or otherwise) then it must do so within the bounds of its entry in the register as a data controller. A parent etc taking photos/video of the schools concert is acting as a private individual and S36 rules (the fact that the images will be used to embarrass the child in later years to the great amusement of his/her contemporaries is immaterial).
