Dear all,

While analysing pottery from the neolithic tell of Vinca, Serbia, we came
upon pot fragments that had been reused as some kind of tools (their edges
are undoubtedly worked). Some of them have regular incisions on their
working surfaces, the incisions being very narrow and nicely shaped. Our
possible explanation is that these incisions come from calming some kind of
plant fibre, perhaps linen, since impressions of linen textile were found on
some of the pots from this site. Has anyone ever encountered tools used for
extracting fibre from flax stems or has an idea how they would look like?
Any references in literature? Thank you.
