Dear Allstat members - apologies for cross posting - We are pleased to announce a three day workshop, "Epidemiological Methods and Clinical Trials for Preventative Health", to be held on the Macquarie University Campus, Sydney, Australia from Wednesday July 7 to Friday July 9, 2004. Co-sponsors include CSIRO Mathematical and Information Sciences, the Macquarie University Department of Statistics, the Biostatistics Collaborative of Australia (BSA) and the Clinical Trials Center at Sydney University. The workshop will run as a Satellite to the IBC-ASC conference to be held in Cairns from July 12-17, 2004. Proceeds from the workshop will be used to support the invited speaker program for the Cairns conference and provide scholarships for attendees from developing countries. The workshop will begin with a brief introduction to epidemiological methods and move quickly to a range of more specialised topics such as observational clinical trials, meta-analysis, spatial epidemiology, disease surveillance, environmental epidemiology and advanced general methods. Speakers include Professors Norman Breslow (University of Washington, Seattle), Peter Diggle (Lancaster University), Christl Donnelly (Imperial College London), Louise Ryan (Harvard University, Boston), Bhaswati Ganguli (Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta), Malcolm Hudson (Macquarie University, Sydney), John Simes (Sydney University) and Linda Young (Biostatistics, University of Florida).
