medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture The earliest Cistercian foundations in Italy were in the north, e.g. Tiglieto (founded from La Ferte' before January 1127), Morimondo (founded from Morimond ca. 1134), Chiarvalle di Milano (founded from Clairvaux on 22 July 1135) and in southern Lazio, e.g. Fossanova (Cistercian since 1130, but the present abbey church is of the late 12th-/early 13th-centuries) and Casamari (founded by St. Bernard in 1140).
