medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture Friends, I'm sure this topic comes with regularity, so I apologize to those who have answered this question before. I am wondering if anyone has advice for someone considering which translation of the Song of Roland to order for a sort-of general medieval history class. I teach at a small Southern college whose students are unlikely to benefit from facing translations. And I am against using the Merwin translation on the grounds that representing a poem as not a poem can't entirely be a good thing (though I'm willing to be argued out of this view). Oh, and I am trying to keep book costs down, but I'm willing to splurge on a few items. Any suggestions? Thanks.
