One of Dr. Pfeiffer’s last professional pursuits was the establishment of a new journal in the field of disability studies. David strongly felt there was the need for a journal in the field of disability studies which focused upon international issues and views. To that end he worked hard over the past year to initiate a new professional journal entitled: Review of Disability Studies (RDS): An International Journal. David was serving as the lead editor for the new Journal and wrote an introductory paper for the first issue to be released in the month of January 2004. With David’s passing, the associate editors for RDS have decided to dedicate the first issue of the Review of Disability Studies: An International Journal, to Dr. David Pfeiffer. As a part of that issue, we will publish a few of the thousands of the written statements that have been received about the impact that Dr. Pfeiffer had on the persons with AND WITHOUT disabilities around the world – if you would like to submit your own personal comment to be considered for inclusion in the dedication issue of RDS, please send to [log in to unmask] – also, if you would like to receive a comple (I)mentary copy of the dedication issue of RDS or receive more information about RDS, please go to WWW.rds.hawaii.edu. Each year, the Center on Disability Studies produces and distributes an Executive Summary Report – this years report will be dedicated to the life’s work of Dr. David Pfeiffer – as a part of that dedication, we will publish a number of testimonials to the influence David had on the life of persons with disabilities around the world – if you would like to submit a statement for consideration of inclusion in this document please send to [log in to unmask] – also, please drop a note if you would like to receive a copy of the report. One of Dr. Pfeiffer’s request was to not have traditional services upon the event of his passing – as a way of honoring his request services are not being planned and thoughts are being collected regarding ways to celebrate his life in a manner he would have appreciated – will keep you posted – thanks – bob stodden. >> Ron Amundson University of Hawaii at Hilo Hilo, HI 96720 [log in to unmask] ________________End of message______________________ Archives and tools for the Disability-Research Discussion List are now located at: www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/disability-research.html You can JOIN or LEAVE the list from this web page.
