 5th European Conference on Health Economics (September 8th-11th 2004)

This is a reminder that LSE Health and Social Care is hosting the 5th European Conference on Health Economics. Details on conference registration, submission of abstracts, application for organised sessions, the student prize, the hardship fund, accommodation, the local organising committee and the scientific advisory committee can be found at: http://www.lse.ac.uk/Depts/lsehsc/ECHE2004/welcome.htm

Information that is additional to that released in the first call for abstracts is outlined below.
 
 
Plenaries
 
There will be two plenary sessions at the conference. 
 
Professor Richard Layard will be speaking on happiness. Professor Layard is a member and founder of the Centre for Economic Performance at the London School of Economics, and since 2000 he has also been a member of the House of Lords. He has written widely on unemployment, inflation, education, inequality and post-Communist reform. He was an early advocate of the welfare-to-work approach to unemployment, and co-authored the influential book Unemployment: Macroeconomic Performance and the Labour Market (OUP 1991). From 1997-2001 he helped implement these policies as a consultant to the Labour government. 
 
The second plenary speaker is yet to be confirmed. 

 
 
Satellite sessions 
 
Up to ten satellite sessions will be organised, which will take place immediately after the close of programme on Thursday September 9th and Friday September 10th. The purpose of these sessions will be for organisations, institutions or companies to hold a seminar on any theme or issue that they wish. The satellite sessions will be allotted on a first-come first-served basis at a charge of 5,000 Euros. 
 
 
Poster prize
 
The Brian Abel-Smith Prize, worth 500 Euros, will be awarded to the best poster. All conference delegates will be given an opportunity to vote for what they perceive to be the best poster. 
 
 
Publicity materials
 
Academic centres with five or more participants at the conference will, on request, be allotted a space at no charge to display their own publications and brochures. Official sponsors of the conference that have donated at least 1,500 Euros (public sector) or 3,000 Euros (private sector) will also, on request, be allotted a space to display materials. Publishers will be allotted a space at a charge of 1,500 Euros. Those interested in pursuing these opportunities further should contact Adam Oliver at [log in to unmask]

Monday February 16th: Deadline for abstracts and for organised session proposals
Friday March 19th: Deadline for submission to the hardship fund committee
Wednesday March 31st: Acceptance/rejection decision on abstracts and organised session proposals 
Monday May 31st: Deadline on early bird registration
Monday May 31st: Deadline for submission to student prize competition
Wednesday June 30th: Deadline for booking university accommodation
