Alexander the Great is a presiding presence in the second book of Boiardo's Orlando Innamorato; pictures of his campaigns decorate the walls of Agramante's palace at Biserta and prompt the young king, who is Alexander's descendant, to organize an invasion of France. I've tried to look at the French romance sources for the Alexander story, but the materials are scattered. Riccardo Bruscagli started publishing on this stuff, but I think gave up. I don't recall if Ariosto picked up the Alexander aspect of Agramante.
