Current Dilemmas in Qualitative Research
3rd & 4th March 2004, Bristol

A two-day training workshop for people interested in qualitative research 
into health services or health-related topics and who already have a basic 
understanding of this field.

The aim of this workshop is to provide a forum for exploring a number of 
dilemmas that are currently being debated by those involved in qualitative 
research.  Experts in these areas will give overviews of the debates and 
provide material for background reading.  Emphasis will be on participative 
discussion.

Speaker and topics include:
· How do we apply criteria and are they any use? Professor Rose Barbour, 
University of Dundee.
· Getting qualitative work published.  Professor Mildred Blaxter, 
University of Bristol.
· Synthesis of qualitative data.  Dr Rona Campbell, University of Bristol.
· Cochrane qualitative methods group.  Professor Jennie Popay (tbc), 
Lancaster University.
· Ethical issues in qualitative research.  Dr Jane Seymour, University of 
Sheffield.
· Combining Methods.  Dr Kathryn Milburn, University of Edinburgh.
· Resources for qualitative research. Dr Karen Henwood, University of East 
Anglia.
· Qualitative researchers - training needs and methodological identities. 
Dr Chris Taylor, Cardiff University.
· DIPEx study.  Ms Sue Ziebland, University of Oxford.
