Hi there

Apologies for any cross postings, but this might be of interest to some
on the list. Please bring it to the attention of any contract staff
whom you know who might be interested in attending.

It is worth noting you don't have to be a geographer, or based in the
UK, or even giving a paper; you just have to be attending IBG conference
2004 and have a fixed term contract. The deadline is 31st March 2004.

Royal Geography Society with the Institute of British Geographers
Contract Research and Teaching Forum FULL FEES BURSARY for IGU/RGS
Conference, Glasgow 2004 Background The CRTSF exists to:

* To encourage interaction, networking and communication between
Contract Research and Teaching (CRT) staff within RGS-IBG and amongst
fellow academic colleagues so as to further career progression, proposal
writing and shape institutional practice.

* To publicise and promote the work of and issues affecting CRTS
and to facilitate discussions within the RGS-IBG, higher education
institutions and other learned societies.

* To further disseminate the results of contractual research and
teaching via papers, presentations and seminars.

* To host and participate in events which are relevant to the
needs of CRTS
In recent years, the Forum has operated a token bursary scheme in
support of this, to assist its' members to attend the RBG IBG annual
conference.

In 2004, our annual conference is 'nested' within the International
Geographical Union (IGU) conference in Glasgow, 15th 20th August 2004,
and consequently the cost is likely to be much higher than in previous
years. For 2004, therefore, the Forum has decided to offer an Award
covering at least one full fees bursary which will cover the full fees
for the IGU Glasgow Conference to any geography contract employee
attending the IGU conference.

Invitation for applications

We are inviting applications for this award, and invite aspiring
candidates to submit an application, a supporting statement, and where
applicable, the details of the session in which they are presenting, to
CRTF by 31st March 2004. There are a number of criteria by which the
Award Committee will rank applications, related to the aims of the Forum
and general, and of this award in particular:
* Being on a fixed term contract,
* Within five years of beginning academic employment,
* Returning to academic employment after career or other break.
* An unsuccessful application to another body for conference funds
* Being in a (non geography) department unwilling to support
attendance at RGS IBG conference,
*       RGS IBG, CRTSF member,
* On a teaching contract with no direct support for research,
* Being in a department with a low RAE rating (i.e. less QR
income)
* Presenting one's own research not directly related to contract
funder,
* Presenting a paper at the conference.

Notes

1. This competition is open to all geography contract staff
