Department of Geography, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN   55455.  The Department invites nominations and applications for a tenure-track, 100% time, nine-month, assistant professor position, beginning August 30, 2004. We are seeking a Human Geographer to extend departmental strengths in one or more of the following areas: race, ethnicity, and/or gender; migration, immigration, and/or diasporas; urban analysis and planning; urban natures/environments; technology and society; culture, politics and power; and questions of development and livelihood strategies. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to draw on or contribute to pertinent geographic and cognate theory. Regional and field experience outside North America is desirable.


Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Geography or related discipline by the date of appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a strong program of research and publication including regular applications for external research support, to develop and/or participate in a superior instructional program at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and to build links between geography and related academic departments. Salary will depend on the successful candidate's qualifications, consistent with collegiate and university policies.
