The Global Compact (GC) emphasises companies adopting and implementing nine core principles promulgated by the UN, principles already accepted by most of the worldıs nation-states. Reactions in the public arena to the initiation of the GC have ranged from kudos for using the UNıs moral authority and convening power to push business into principles and responsible actions with respect to human rights, labour and the natural environment, to charges of corporate bluewashingı (wrapping company actions in the blue UN flag without real substance behind them). The truth, as the papers in this special issue suggests, probably lies somewhere in between. ********************************* Table of Contents * Introduction Malcolm McIntosh, independent commentator and Visiting Professor, Universities of Bath and Nottingham, UK, and Waikato Management School, New Zealand, and tutor at the Sustainability Institute, Stellenbosch University, South Africa with David Murphy and Rupesh Shah, New Academy of Business, UK Turning Pointı * Trust Building and Trust Busting: Corporations, Government and Responsibilities Steven D.
