Session Title: Unbounding Asian Geographies
Session sponsored by the Asian Geography Specialty Group

This session will examine the conventional boundaries of geographies of Asia. It will foreground mutually constitutive ‘external’  connections, the routes as well as roots of ‘Asia’ and how doing 'Asian' geographical research extends beyond bounded area study.

We seek papers which explore any of these or related themes:
 

• The historical construction of ‘Asia’ as a region of/for geographical study
• Interconnections between Asia and the ‘West’ (including Asia and Asians' role in the history and geography of the West)
• Deconstruction of the region and/or area studies
• Asian geographies beyond regional cartographic boundaries
• Geographies from Asia and geographies of Asia
• The relation of new Asian geographies to the Anglo-American disciplinary centre
