Call for expressions of interest in writing about community development work with refugees The Community Development Journal (Oxford University Press) will be publishing a special issue on community development work with refugees and asylum seekers, to appear early in 2005. The editors of the issue will be Professor Gary Craig(University of Hull) and Dr Hermione Lovel (University of Manchester). This is a preliminary call for expressions of interest from those who would be interested in contributing to the issue. There are several different kinds of contribution being sought: 1..A theoretical piece on the difficulties and opportunities of community development work with refugees, and factors that can facilitate such work (3000 words) 2. longer case studies of work with refugees (up to 3000 words) 3. shorter case notes of work with refugees (up to 1000 words). 4. contributions to a resources section which will list relevant recent literature, materials etc. including 'grey' literature i.e. literature which is generally quite hard to access or is locally-produced, including where possible information in a range of (specified) languages. The issue will be a fully international one so the space for contributions from any particular national perspective will be limited. We welcome contributions which include a regional perspective (eg West Africa, central Africa, Horn of Africa, North Africa, Middle East, Central Asia, South Asia, Australasia) and which can reflect in part on the difficulties of working transnationally; we intend to include a strong gender perspective; and are keen to publish material produced by researchers working in collaboration with local refugee groups. (There may be a small amount of money available to help with the costs of the latter e.g. as a facility fee or for interpretation). Anyone interested in one or more of the above 'slots', please contact either Gary Craig at Social Policy, University of Hull, Hull, HU6 7RX UK, email [log in to unmask] or Dr Hermione Lovel, WHO Collaborating Centre for Primary Care, University of Manchester, Rusholme Health Centre, Walmer Street, Manchester M14 5NP UK. email [log in to unmask] All interested in contributing are asked to provide a summary of no more than 100 words outlining which slot they wish to contribute to and the scope of their proposed contribution, by September 30 2003 at the latest. All contributions will be acknowledged although we wish to ensure a good balance of pieces within the issue and cannot guarantee publication of any proposed contribution. We will make decisions about commissioning articles as soon as possible after September 30 so authors would have up to six months to prepare and finalise them.
