FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS - LATISS - Learning and Teaching in the Social
Sciences

LATISS is a refereed journal that aims to use the disciplines of sociology,
anthropology, politics, international relations and social policy to reflect
critically on learning and teaching practices in higher education and to
analyse their relationship to changes in higher education policies and
institutions.

The research field of Learning and Teaching in the Social Sciences will
include:
·     all aspects of learning and teaching and higher education reform from
national and comparative perspectives
·     evidence based developments in curriculum, assessment, learning and
teaching methods
·     analyses of impacts of institutional and national policies on learning and
teaching - e.g. widening access, employability, audit, quality enhancement

Each volume will have some articles on a common theme. The overall theme for
2004 is Changing Landscapes of Higher Education.

The journal seeks to promote scholarship and research on learning and
teaching and invites contributions from a wide and diverse community of
practitioners, researchers and students. All contributions should be written
in a clear and accessible style, avoiding the use of jargon.

Contributions are likely to fall into one of four categories
·     Articles (5000-6000 words) extending the knowledge base through original
research and scholarship.
·     Essays (3000-4000 words) offering new perspectives and stimulating debate.
·     Reports (1000-2500 words) of research in progress and innovations in
practice.
·     Reviews (600-1000 words) of relevant recent publications, electronic media
and software and conferences.

Forthcoming deadlines for submission:
1 August 2003 is the deadline for Volume 1:1 February 2004
1 October 2003 is the deadline for Volume 1:2 June 2004
1 February 2004 is the deadline for Volume 1:3 October 2004
