With apologies for cross-posting The British Library and Dewey 22 The Dewey Decimal Classification (22nd edition) is to be published by OCLC in July 2003. The web version (WebDewey) changed to the 22nd edition on June 15. The British Library will introduce Dewey 22 in phases in order to better manage the cataloguers' training load at a time when the Library is also undertaking the transition to MARC 21 and implementing a new library system. The British Library derives a small number of its records from the Library of Congress. As the Library of Congress intends to start applying Dewey 22 from July 1st 2003, these records where derived for the British National Bibliography will carry Dewey 22 class numbers, and will appear in the printed BNB, on exchange data files and on the BNB on CD-ROM from mid-July onwards. The British Library will also add Dewey 22 numbers to a limited number of original bibliographic records from 1st July 2003. However, the majority will continue to carry Dewey 21st edition class numbers until 1st January 2004, when all records will be classified according to the 22nd edition of Dewey. CIP (Cataloguing-in-Publication) records. Bibliographic Data Services plans to introduce Dewey 22 on 1 October 2003. All CIP records created from pre-publication information after this date will be classified in accordance with Dewey 22. Most CIP records for items with a publication date of 1 January 2004 onwards are likely to contain Dewey 22 numbers. Some CIP records for books scheduled for publication in 2004 will have been created before October 1st, and these records will bear Dewey 21 class numbers. Information for titles scheduled for publication in the last quarter of 2003 received subsequent to 1 October 2003 will be classified using Dewey 22.
