Hi all, with apologies for cross-posting
We are trying to find some standardised terminology for recording the topographic and geomorphological context of archaelogical monuments.
We have a standard list for the immediate topography (e.g. river edge, base of slope, etc.), but we are having trouble finding terminology for the wider geomorphology.
In terms of scale, I suppose we are looking for terms that could describe areas of at least a few hundred metres square - perhaps it would include terms like "alluvial terrace", "plateau moorland", "glacial valley" etc but I'm clutching at straws.

Can you help? Does anyone have a list that they find useful from an archaeological point of view, or know any friendly geographers/geomorphologists who might? Or know of any lists that have been used in landscape characterisation projects?

We don't need a published standard, just a working list at this stage.

thanks very much for any replies on or off list.
Crispin
