It is conventional for all THRs to have check X-rays a day or so after surgery. Does anyone know why? In my experience of 25 years in orthopaedics the check X-ray has only made the slightest bit of difference in the routine postop progranmme in a handful of cases. This has been when the surgeon already knew that there was something awry already. Why can't this be done at the six-week review when proper standing films will give a much better indication of leg lengths, cement quality, etc etc? Any views anyone?
