CAMARET où se trouvait cette chapelle était un prieuré dépendant de l'abbaye Notre-Dame de Daoulas (Chanoines réguliers de Saint-Augustin) jl deuffic ----- Original Message ----- From: "Christopher Crockett" <[log in to unmask]> To: <[log in to unmask]> Sent: Saturday, May 03, 2003 5:50 PM Subject: Re: [M-R] [Re: [M-R] Pilgrimage sites with female votive] medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture Marjorie Greene <[log in to unmask]> wrote: >Rocamadour (Mary) the pilgrimage here is also "documented" by a rather substantial number of (12th-13th cc.) pilgrims' "badges" of *very* high quality which have been found in a number of sites across Europe (including Paris & London) --suggesting that it was a very popular site. the Rocamador badges are, apparently, unique in form (they seem to be, literally, a "Sigillum") and most of them are of unusually high quality: http://www.ariadne.org/centrechartraine/badges/cluny/cluny_rocamadour/cluny_ 100.jpg http://www.ariadne.org/centrechartraine/badges/spencer/spencer_rocamadour/sp encer245a.jpg http://www.ariadne.org/centrechartraine/badges/spencer/spencer_rocamadour/sp encer245c.jpg and others in these subdirectories : http://www.ariadne.org/centrechartraine/badges/spencer/spencer_rocamadour/ http://www.ariadne.org/centrechartraine/badges/cluny/cluny_rocamadour/ there is a good overview of the Rocamador pilgrimage in : Brian Spencer, Pilgrim Souvenirs and Secular Badges: Medieval Finds from Excavations in London.
