The Bluffer's Guide to Metadata A Workshop with the Archaeology Data Service York: Wednesday 24th September 2003 Invitation The Archaeology Data Service (ADS) invites you to a one-day workshop at the King's Manor, University of York, on Wednesday 24th September. The workshop will address the documentation of digital resources, with particular focus on the needs of researchers and managers in the cultural heritage and arts and humanities communities. Documentation is becoming increasingly important in the digital world, not just to aid resource discovery, but also to ensure the long term viability of digital materials in a constantly changing environment. This workshop will cover the use of different kinds of metadata, and why such documentation is so important for the successful completion of any digitisation project. Special emphasis will be given to the lessons that can be learned from interdisciplinary research, and the challenges involved in recording information relating to the historic environment. Who should come? This event will be of interest to all researchers involved in the creation, dissemination and use of high quality digital research resources in the arts and humanities community and historic environment community. The workshop will be of special interest to those who are preparing an application for one of the funding schemes organised by the Arts and Humanities Research Board or the Joint Information Systems Committee, and will be relevant to those hoping to obtain funding for all types of digital project. How much does it cost? The workshop is being run at cost. The cost will be £30 per person with a reduced rate of £15 for students. A buffet lunch and refreshments will be provided. Where?
