The need for health professionals to learn to access and understand evidence has become ever larger with the increasing volume of health care research.

The First Conference of Evidence-Based Health Care Developers & Teachers took place on the 12th September 2001. This landmark event enabled the international exchange of experience and knowledge and the exploration of contemporary experiments and developments. It was made possible by the emergence of the GIMBE.

EBHC is being taught around the world in diverse settings but the problems faced by teachers are very similar. The processes for teaching and their evaluation were shared in plenaries, small groups and informal discussion.

The 2nd International Conference of Evidence-Based Health Care Teachers & Developers builds on that first experience and shifts the focus to the future: the theme is sign posting directions to developing tools and strategies to support teaching and implementing EBHC and to future research.

We are confident that our invitation in Sicily will be appreciated by the international community of EBHC developers & teachers, so to enable us to put up a good scientific meeting in an atmosphere not only as warm as expected in a Mediterranean country, but also very rich in cultural stimuli.
